Episode 4
The Backyard Retreat
Cedar and steel pergola, outdoor kitchen, barrel sauna pad, gas fire table lounge, synthetic turf and games lawn, retaining walls, landscape planting
The challenge
This family of five, with two dogs, had a backyard so hard to use that they were close to moving out.
The design idea
Instead of one empty lawn, the yard was planned as a set of separate spots for cooking, relaxing, and playing. Everyone in the family has a place to be.
What Stuteville Landscaping built
- Cedar and steel pergola over the outdoor kitchen and dining area
- Barrel sauna on its own pad
- Gas fire table lounge on pea gravel
- Synthetic turf games lawn with a cornhole court
- Block retaining walls
- New perimeter plantings

“Going Hard in the Yard”
This family's backyard had them close to moving out. Stuteville Landscaping turned it into an outdoor room with a cedar and steel pergola over the kitchen and dining area, a barrel sauna, a fire table lounge, and a turf games lawn.
Episode 7
The Fire Garden
Corten steel and cedar privacy screens, outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, dining patio, fire table lounge, redwood steps, corten planters, landscape lighting
The challenge
A young couple with a toddler and a baby on the way had a crumbling backyard that was not safe to use.
The design idea
The old raised deck came out, and redwood steps now lead down to the patio and a covered swing. The family's existing lawn and play structure stayed, so the kids kept their play space.
What Stuteville Landscaping built
- Outdoor kitchen with built-in grills and a pizza oven
- Dining patio
- Fire table lounge with Adirondack chairs
- Laser-cut corten steel privacy screens
- Cedar slat privacy screens
- Corten steel planters and new trees
- Redwood steps with black metal railings
- Landscape lighting throughout
