“Don't Rain on My Reno”

A young couple with a toddler and a baby on the way had a backyard that was not safe to use. Stuteville Landscaping built an outdoor kitchen and dining patio, a fire lounge, lit corten and cedar screens, and new redwood steps down from the house.

About This Project

This family backyard was featured on HGTV's Crashers, season 1, episode 7.

Laser-cut corten steel screens and cedar privacy screens glow at dusk behind corten planters and uplit trees.

An outdoor kitchen with built-in grills, a stone veneer counter, and a pizza oven serves the dining patio, and a fire table warms an Adirondack lounge.

New redwood steps lead down to a covered swing and a playhouse on pea gravel, and the design keeps the family's existing lawn and play structure for the kids.

Before and After

Before: open lawn and the plain back of the house with an old wood deck Before
After: the back of the house at dusk with lit corten and cedar screens and planters After
Seen from the back of the yard, the plain view of the house now looks onto lit corten and cedar screens and planters along the patio.
Before: an older raised wood deck with wood railings along the house Before
After: redwood steps with black metal railings down to the patio and a covered swing After
The old raised deck was replaced with redwood steps and black metal railings leading down to the patio and a covered swing.
